Re: are things relatedFrom: Sonnet (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 2 Aug 2001 04:10:14 -0500 (CDT)
I am really, REALLY tired right now (it's 2am! Ack!) so please forgive me if I am not making much sense! Two thoughts: 1) We know that there is a definite genetic component to PCOS, we know what chromosone you find it on, etc. So in a sense, nothing environmental causes PCOS, although for sure it does seem to be "triggered" by certain things. For some people this is stress, a trauma, an eating disorder, a medication, the list goes on. We don't know why, but SOMETHING appears to really start it off. 2) It's been pointed out on this board that steroids (exactly those put in inhalers, I believe) can be a trigger for endocrine problems related to PCOS, like Cushings or other adrenal problems. Some people just are more sensitive to them I guess? And they mess up brain/body chemistry and cause problems. So my point is, while I totally agre with you that not everything is necessarily a part of PCOS just because people have it, there's an indirect link with steroids. Maybe tenuous, but valid!! We know so little about PCOS or any endocrine disease, really. The only way we're going to find out anything about how it works in entirety is by comparing this stuff. And, it makes us feel not so isolated if we know others have the same thing we do :) There was a lot written on exactly this subject a long time ago, maybe a good year ago or more. Do a search and you should come up with plenty of arguments! in love, Sonnet
