Carbohydrate Addict assistance

I've seen the "Carbohydrate Addict's Diet" touted here a number of times as a way to learn how to control carbohydrate intake/blood sugar levels. So when I saw the CAD Gram Counter, which measures "essential food facts," in the bookstore this weekend, I bought it. But now I'm just not sure how to use it. Potatoes, for instance, which I've been told are a no-no, don't look all that bad in this book, and aren't listed as a "trigger" food. Chocolate milk, in contrast, while not a trigger food, appears to be high in carbs., even though because of its glycemic index number it's supposed to be good to use as the "food or milk" with which to take Glucophage. How can I use this resource effectively?

Thanks in advance to all who answer.
