======================================================== A couple of things:

You're right--be cautious and know what you're taking. However, it is illegalfor pharmaceutical companies to give perks to prescribe one brand of med over another. There was recently a huge fine placed on a pharmaceutical company andthe docs it "bribed" to use their prostate cancer drug over a competitor. The most you can get is a pen or pad of paper or something like that, for informational purposes only, not as a payback for prescribing something.

Secondly, FYI: Dr. San Thatcher, and Dr. Sam from the forum are different people. Both are knowlegable and helpful, but they aren't the same person.

Renee ======================================================== I don't want to start a fight or anything here, but a lot of Dr's DO get perks from pill companies! I have an acquaintance who is a Dr. (he and I actually got into "words" of sorts over this issue). He gets perks all the time from companies... booze, meals (not like Denny's or anything... we're talking $100 a plate deals now, and bottles of wine that cost plenty), tickets for events etc. Not to mention all of the free sample packets they get to give out to patients (I don't mind the free samples... right now I am paying for ALL of the 5 (soon to be 6) medications that I am taking out of pocket!)... Pill companies might be starting to get into trouble over these sort of practices, but there is still a long way to go! They need to stop giving the perks and start lowering prices!!

One question... speeking of pills.. For YEARS now my Dr. has had me taking my BC pills kinda differant... I take the 21 regular pills and then take only 4 days worth of the placibo, then start back on the regular pills. Anyone else do that? Also, the Dr. never gave me a good reason why he wants me to take them like this... anyone else have a clue?

Thanks For Listening! (I'll get down off the soap box now! :) And thanks in advance for answering my question! -Christine U2Rox@aol.com
