Re: To Celeste and Sonnet re: Premature Ovarian FailureFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 28 Jul 2001 00:53:24 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Kris, I have exactly the same thing. My estrogen shows up in the teens and sometimes twenties, which (at least on the Australian system) is in the "menopausal" range. I have been to so many "experts" and none of them can explain why I have so little estrogen. I have been tested on every possible day of my cycle, so it's not that. I discovered this at 28, after not having a period for about 6 years. The weird thing is that if I do eat low carb and exercise 5-6 times a week, I will get a period every month. A real one, with all the PMS (which was a damn shock after all those years!) Anyway, I thought PMS would seem to indicate the production of estrogen. But there is still virtually none - I have been tested in different countries, different labs, different days. When I have moved in the past and changed doctor, they all pooh-pooh it until they see it themselves. The most knowledgeable expert I saw, did say that as long as there is ANY cycle/variation in the estrogen, no matter how low the level - ie - even going from the teens to the twenties, you are "cycling' and therefore your ovaries have not shut down and you have not entered premature menopause. If I ever find any answer I will let you know. In the meantime, I was able to get periods and ovulate by combining low carb and exercise. It's all a mystery!!!!! MJ
