Hello, I'm new to all this.From: Alicia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 16 Jul 2001 08:12:21 -0500 (CDT)
I've been watching all the postings on this board for quite some time and have finally worked up the nerve to introduce myself. My name is Alicia and I was diagnosed with PCOS at age 10. I have every possible symptom associated with this syndrome and have been dismissed my whole life by Doctors just telling me to lose weight. I finally, after a year of asking, went to my Primary Doctor armed with the information off this board and got a referral to an endo in my local area. I just started Glucophage about two weeks ago and I have some questions. 1. How long does it take to start seeing noticable changes and what are realistic expectations for improvement of the "outward symptoms"? 2. For those losing weight, is there any special diet that works best for people with PCOS? My doctor advised that he would go over the diet on our next visit, but that is over a month away and I wanted to get started. I know about high fiber, but is there a book anyone could recommend to assist me in getting started? Anyway, for the first time in my life I feel I have hope. Thank you.
-- Alicia
