Debra,

My best advise is to have an insulin glucose tolerance test. This will probably show that you have some level of insulin resistance. If it does, hopefully the endo will put you on Glucophage. I am 5'4" and was 242 lbs. I was only able to lose weight if I starved myself, or with Phen-Fen. I have been on 2000 Mg of Glucophage since the second week of May and am currently 218.5 lbs. I've lost 23.5 lbs in 2 months! And, it is SOOOOO easy compared to what it used to be! The first 13 lbs I lost without changing anything (except trying to limit sweets). Now I'm on a diet, although not too strict. I'll have anywhere from 1500 to 1800 calories a day and stay away from sugar almost completely. Other carbs are still fair game, although in limited quantities. This seems to work quite well for me! I can't stress enough how easy it has been. So, my advice is, start with the IGTT and a script for Glucophage!
