Re: Birth control pill

The reasoning behind this is that triphasic pills have three different levels of hormones. When PCOS'ers take it to correct a hormone imbalance, we really need a constant low dose (because we're replacing something that we lack) instead of it jumping all over. The different levels just wreak havoc with our already stressed systems. Anecdotally I have heard many women here say that there symptoms became much worse after being on triphasic pills.

If OrthoCyclen is giving you lots of trouble, by all means change pills. There are so many out there, you should be able to find one that works with your body. Give it a few weeks though, sometimes the progesterone (I think?) in OrthoCyclen causes nausea similar to morning sickness; I've heard this goes away though. There are also new pills on the market that contain specific ingredients for treating hormone problems. I think some of these are Yasmin and Diane 35 (in the UK) and a few others.
