Need advice about 13 yr old daughterFrom: Tessie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 1 Jul 2001 11:24:22 -0500 (CDT)
Hi to all, I just found this forum and think it's great and informative. I'm trying to found out info about my 13 yr old daughter. She had a yearly physical in June with her pediatrician. I requested several blood tests that they were reluctant to do, but I insisted because of symptoms I've noticed with her over the past year. I specifically asked for a testosterone test but somehow after giving four viles of blood and it being on the lab form it was not done. Test results are: DHEA S 659 range 20-535 Total T3 1.38 range60-181 FT4 1.2 range 0.8-1.8 TSH 1.96 range under 2. total cholesterol 176 range under 170 Insulin 11 range 5-25 I'm concerned about the DHEA S being so high. She's about 10 pounds overweight, has acne since the age of 10, some dark hair on her chest and stomach. She won't talk too much about her periods with me, being 13 and all. No one in my family has PCO or on her father's side I have an appt. with a new endocrinologist next mth for my thyroid and wonder if I should bring this up with him. Do these lab results need to be looked into or is 13 yr old too young (with hormonal flucuation at this age) to be concerned at this time? Thank you for any help.
