testosterone and PCOS

I was diagnosed with PCOS at Johns Hopkins back in 1987. At that time my testosterone levels were elevated . I do have the hirsutism and fat around my stomache. My periods were very irregular from 1980-1995. But I did notice that when I did lose some weight that my periods began to get normal. I do go up and down in my weight as much as 60lbs. Back in 1995 I did notice that my periods began to change so I saw my OBGYN, and she ordered my hormone levels to be done. They came back all normal, and she said that its going to be hard to know when menapause sets in. Then I went to another doctor this time I saw a nephrologist(kidney doctor). He said that my testosterone levels will fluctuate because of my kidney disease and PCOS. I was never treated for my PCOS even though they did want to give me aldactone or provera at Hopkins. I however refused treatment. Then another doctor told me that my PCOS just got better by itself. Then another doctor told me that when you have PCOS and your hormones become normal it means that you are entering menapause. Is this illness so confusing to most people ? I am not sure whom I should trust at this time. I keep on getting so many different answers its making me nuts. Should I see an OBGYN or should I see an ENDOCRINOLOGIST? Most of the literature I have read on PCOS has said that with age the testosterone levels elevate even more with this illness. I know medicine is not perfect, can you suggest a good book on the subject ? Or are there sub-specialties that maybe could help me in my quest for an answer? Is there perhaps an Endocrinological-ObGyn? Any information would be of value at this time for me. I forgot to tell you that my age is 47 if that makes any difference. And my sugar levels for the most part are pretty normal. And I do still get pimples near my period or when I eat to much fatty foods or chocolate. I do have high blood pressure since I was only 12 years old. High blood pressure runs in my family on my fathers side and so does heart disease. Thanks for any information you can give me .
