Jennifer - you don't say if you were put on any medication other than
meridia but since you are PCOS- your sweet cravings are likely due to
insulin resistance. Your brain wants those carbs because it isn't
getting that fuel it wants (is also probably the reason you are tired
all the time)and the meridia doesn't do anything for that. If you are
actually IR, losing weight will help but it's not a cure! You need
medication for that or you will likely just put the weight back on :-(.
(Gaining weight is not the sole reason to get your insulin under control
though - it puts you at great risk for becoming diabetic in the future
if it isn't controlled) Have you ever had an IGTT performed to check
your insulin?? If not, that would be a great place to start, (I also
started sleeping better once I started taking glucophage) there is also
a beginners kit on the PCOSA site that is good to take a look at -
complete with questions to ask your doc. http://www.pcosupport.org/ -
Congrats on the 20lbs! Thats awesome! Keep it up :-)
