Re: a question...and some info...From: Chris (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 26 Jun 2001 19:36:07 +1000
Multiple ovarian cysts, especially if they rupture are uncommmon in PCOS. Usually (not always) women with PCOS don't have the right hormonal support to develop cysts that are big enough to burst and cause pain. The "cysts" talked about in PCOS are actually immature follicles on the inside of the ovary, often upwards of 10 at a time. If you don't have any of the other symptoms of PCOS such as acne, hirsutism. obesity etc, then maybe it isn't your problem. If this is the case, then bcp and depo should help you. If you do have PCOS or think you have PCOS you probably need an insulin sensiising drug like metformin. Women with PCOS tend to have IR and metformin can help with this. The other thing that can cause pain in a woman with PCOS is just normal ovulation as the egg has tp pass through the thickened outer covering of the ovary. Whilst it isn't the "norm" of PCOS to ovulate regularly, it is possible in some people. Hope this is as clear as mud *LOL* Emma
