Re: a question...and some info...From: Sonnet (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 26 Jun 2001 03:04:57 -0500 (CDT)
Hi and welcome Katrina! First of all it is impossible to tell if you have PCOS or not without looking at a lot of other things. It is entirely possible to have cysts and not have PCOS. (They sound horrible all the same!) There is a lot of good overview information about PCOS at http://www.inciid.org/faq/pcos.html http://www.pcos.net/whatis.html Basically some of the other symptoms can include a tendency to gain weight, acne, facial or body hair, losing head hair, thyroid problems, skin tags or yellow/brown areas of skin, and a bunch of others. Your doctor can diagnose it with some bloodwork testing things like progesterone, testosterone, DHEAS, FSH/LH, insulin, etc. PCOS stems from problems with insulin resistance and production. The Metformin helps to correct those problems and thus diminish the other symptoms. I hope this helps! :)
