Amanda, You are wise to start asking questions now before you go see your RE.

Here is a good place to start. There is even a list of things to ask your doc. http://www.inciid.org/faq/pcos.html

Your "symptoms" sound like mine. How old are you? I just turned 35. I never thought my hair growth was excessive, just a little heavier than "normal" in the hidden areas. Are you apple-shaped? I also don't have the facial hair problem.

I also was not ovulating and only had about 6 periods a year. I never worried about it because my doctors didn't. I saw an RE for infertility, and that's how I learned about PCOS. I only had a few cysts on sonogram.

Anyway, good luck, and let us know what your results are. Be sure to ask what lab work they are going to do. They should test various hormones for the level and for the ratio, including the insulin test that is not always done because it is a bit more expensive.
