Kristy, Here is an article in which professor John Nestler discusses IR and PCOS. It is called, "Advances in Treatment of PCOS."

http://www.obgyn.net/displayarticle.asp?page=/avtranscripts/verhoeven_nestler

I should also say that the thought of PCOS being with someone even into menopause (that I mentioned in your original thread) came from Dr. Thatcher's book, _PCOS: The hidden epidemic_. If you cannot buy this book, your library would probably be willing to get it on loan if they don't have it already.

Here is a review that tells about this book: http://www.perspectivespress.com/pcospage.html I also found this interview with Dr. Thatcher: http://www.pcosupport.org/pcosarecord/t_interview.html

I looked around the Internet and found this article that might be of interest to you. "Searching for the Key to Insulin Resistance." It explains the connection between IR and diabetes. http://www.diabetes.org/main/community/forecast/pg85.jsp

It is my understanding that if you are IR and not treated, the cells can lose their ability to deal with insulin. At that point you are Type 2 Diabetic. This article says that happens to 25% of the IR population, but the rest never develop diabetes.

I hope these help you. I can relate to your search for knowledge.
