Re: low carbs?

This is my understanding of low carbing...it might very according to the specifics of the diet (Atkins, Sugarbusters, etc.):

A serving of carbs is 15 g. Potatoes, corn, and legumes count as starches. Milk servings should also aim for 15 g of carbs. Fruit servings should be small (and avoid bananas like the plague!). A healthy low-carb diet should contain about 150 g of carbs daily. Below that probably requires medical monitoring (for some people, going into ketosis is o.k., but for others...e.g. if pregnant...it can be BAD). Look at the serving size as well as nutritional info. The problem with your nonfat yogurt is it is probably flavored. A cup of unflavored yogurt is on the 15 g of carb mark. Even "Lite/sugar free" yogurt often rackes up carbs in other ways. One last note: make sure you eat lots of little meals about 3 hours apart. Otherwise, it can feel like your blood sugar is dropping too low, even when it isn't.
