Running is awesome exercise (the only reason I no longer do it is my congenital foot problem finally caught up with me). However, it is important to run correctly. If you do decide you want advice, go to an expert. Running on "tippy toes" is not good for you, but as to what is, don't take my advice or any other amateur advice. Many towns have running clubs, with long-time runners who can mentor and coach. Running incorrectly can cause life-long and permanent injury (particularly to knees and cartilage). However, when done correctly running is great! Keep up the good work! And you are doing the right thing with walking, too. Walking helped me gain the strength and endurance to go from running 1 mile 3-4 times weekly to running 4-5 miles 3 times weekly plus a 6-9 miles run on Sunday...and that change happened over just 2 years.

You are probably right on about your carb needs increasing with more exercise. I used to eat twice what I do now when I ran, and I weighed 30 pounds less. My friends in training for marathons always out-ate me.
