My biggest complaint about BCPs while on glucophage is they make it IMPOSSIBLE to tell if the glucophage is normalizing things to the extent that your periods are regular and normal again. (I am taking both myself now... want to go off the BCP again but afraid to... and this is driving me batty...)

It's really hard to say ANYTHING about your periods, since you are on the BCP.

HOWEVER... i have noticed that my experiences on BCPs are different while on glucophage than before. For one thing, I have been on several types of BCP, and while I have had dreadful side effects from many of them, spotting was one common side effect I never had.

Well... after 3 months on glucophage, I went on mircette. After 2 or 3 days, I started spotting... ALL the time... it was horrible. At the same time, I wondered... did having the common side effect of spotting while on the BCP mean that the glucophage was normalizing my hormones to the point that i was able to have the side effects that a normal woman might have on BCPs?? If so, by all means, let me spot away!!!! :-) (Well, OK... I wasn't that glad to spot all the same... I was very happy that alesse did not make me spot, not until i had also been on aldactone for 2 weeks and started bleeding profusely...)

The other thing I have noticed is, in the past, when I went on the off week off pills, last pill taken on a saturday, I would not get a bleed until wednesday. So much for the sunday start giving me weekends off!!! I would bleed until tuesday then... So i created for myself the thursday start, so I would start bleeding on Monday or so. Well, now that I am on glucophage plus the pill, I start bleeding two days after stopping the pills. This has been true for two brands of pills while on glucophage, and the 4 day lag was true for several brands of pills before glucophage.

SO... I don't know what to say about the brown color, but I know it is normal for women to have light periods on the pill. i think that for many women, periods start out brown... even if it hasn't been a prolonged time, the blood has been gathering for a month, i believe... well, maybe it's just the light periods that are normal with the pill, that you are experiencing? I really don't know... like I said, it's hard to determine anything about your periods if you're on the birth control pill...
