Re: can i have prevented this?From: Alicia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 29 May 2001 10:36:21 -0500 (CDT)
There is even a presupposition out there that a major stressful event early in one's life can be the 'trigger' for PCOS. I wonder sometimes about my situation. I had the eating disorder (In junior high I lived on 500 no-fat cals a day.) I had the Syndrome X running in my dad's side of the family. I ate high-carb/sugar no-fat for a long time. AND my mother passed away when I was 14, making that the single most stressful time in my life. And my doc put me on BCPs at 20 to induce periods. I think I had every possible triggger for PCOS. Looking back, it would be surprising for me NOT to have gotten it. Ha! I guess it comes down to the fact that we are still very much in the dark ages about this disease. I'm sure as research progresses we will find out even more surprising things about PCOS. And who knows, maybe 10 years from now we will look back at our current methods of dealing with this as completely wrong.
