This is totally a born disease. Something unpreventable. It is hereditary in different forms. They are finding it links to families with Diabetics. Me and 2 cousins have PCOS. Our family has a high diabetic rate.

You should be seeking help from an Endocronologist or a Reproductive Endo to help you. PCOS is a life disease and there is no cure ... yet. As you get older the symptoms most likely will worsen. Untreated can be deadly in the end. PCOS leads to diabetes, cancer, strokes, heart disease, etc. It is important to seek constant medical help with a good doctor that will listen to you an is educated on PCOS. It is also important to get your diet intake to a good one. Seek a good diabetes nutritionalist as well for more advice.

Stay away from certain BCP's such as Ortho-Tri-Cyclen or as someone else said 'triphasic' (sp?) BCP's. Make sure if you are perscribed a BCP that this is what you want to do. Research BCP, all medications perscribed, and PCOS until all your questions are answered. Get the low down on a drug and see about the side effects. Education is the key. A good site is PCOSupport.org

Check with your local RESOLVE if you are TTC. They too can help.
