Re: BCP make PCOS worse?From: AdoptASAP (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 28 May 2001 14:31:27 -0500 (CDT)
My personal feeling is BCP are not a good solution for PCOS (definately not mroe then 3-4 months). BCP only give you a break and that can be helpful. They only MASK PCOS and when you are off them, you will most likely be worse then before. As you get older and PCOS is left untreated, they get worse and worse leading to heart disease, diabetes, strokes, cancer, etc. BCP ONLY help a 'side effect' of PCOS which are the hormones aspect and menstraul - provera (a 10 day pill) does the same thing. You need to attack the cause which links to insulin. My last comment is, your body is screwed up hormonically, do you want to continue on this hormonal roller coaster? Do you want to fill your body with medication that isn't really helping you? My opinoin is to stay away from BCP, attack the PCOS in other ways and use other methods of birthcontrol (Condoms and spermacide are great together and has the same %age as a BCP alone but without the constant medication running through your blood stream and messin up your hormones even more.)
