has anyone participated in a clinical trial?

I live in Boston and I've recently seen ads in the subway looking for PCOS research subjects. I was really surprised that PCOS is getting that much attention. (Mass General is conducting most of the trials.) I went on the website and found 6 clinical trials that are currently open. I would love to participate. The only catch is they don't want you to be on hormonal medications, i.e. birth control pills. I have been taking bcps for 3 years now.

First question, if I stopped the bcps and applied for a trial, would the hormones be sufficiently out of my system?

Second question, would that be a wise thing to do? My symptoms are under control (or sufficiently suppressed, however you want to look at it) and I'd hate to screw everything up again. Any suggestions or past experiences with this would be helpful!

In case you were wondering, here are the topics of some of the trials:

* Effect of Insulin on Luteinizing Hormone (LH) Release in Women MGH

* Effects of Oral Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) Administration On Insulin Sensitivity And Luteinizing Hormone (LH) Secretion in Young Hyperandrogenic Women MGH

* Hormonal and Metabolic Impact of Binge Eating in Women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome-IVGTT MGH

* Suppression of Gonadotropins and Ovarian Androgens with a GnRH Agonist and Antagonist. MGH

* Urine Testing for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome MGH

* The relationship between ovarian hormones and insulin in women with irregular periods. BWH
