Re: I'm having a problem for getting pregnant, is it possible that I also have aPCOS?From: Holly (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 18 May 2001 09:03:41 -0500 (CDT)
Suzette, There are many symptoms for PCOS some of which are irregular periods, obesity, excessive hair growth (on face and other non-desirable locations!), thinning hair (on head!), infertility, and adult acne. If you have some of these symptoms (you don't need to have all of them) you may have PCOS. A good test to start with is the LH (leutinizing hormone) to FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) ratio. Normally, this ratio should be less than 3 and closer to 1 than 3 (mine is 4.66). After this, you should have a fasting insulin level check: anything over 10 indicates insulin resistance which may be the root cause of PCOS. Others on this board will be able to give you a detailed list of what other tests to request your doctor run.
