Re: estrogen vs, testosterone??? confused?? help!!From: Char (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 12 May 2001 13:11:18 -0500 (CDT)
Yes, estrogen and progesterone are the 2 main female hormones. Testosterone is the major male hormone, but women also have small amounts of it in their bodies naturally. Women with PCOS usually have testosterone levels that are way too high and progesterone levels that are too low, creating an imbalance. Estrogen levels are usually normal. The high testosterone levels in women with PCOS is what causes the extra hair growth on the face, etc. and hair loss on the head, and in addition to the low progesterone levels, lots of other problems.
