Not diagnosed yet

I was first diagnosed with ovarian cysts at 19. 10 years have gone by where my periods were somewhat regular (about every 6 weeks) and sometimes several months went by w/o seeing one. I have hair on my chin, upper lip, stomach, breasts. (I have been using Vaniqa for about 6 weeks but i have yet to see results.) I am about 20 lbs overweight and it gets more difficult to maintain that with each passing year. I have IBS really bad. I have some acne, but BCPs seem to help that. I have a super-high sex drive naturally, but when I go on the Pill it is reduced to nothing. I haven't had any problems with losing my hair.

I started researching the internet a couple of months ago and forced my doctor to order some lab tests. My levels were high on testosterone and prolactin tests (no tumor found on MRI, though). (DHEAS is normal.) I am not sure if these 2 are related or not. I still have to do a fasting insulin because my doctor "forgot" to put it on the lab order. I may ask her to order LH, FSH and Progesterone, too). I am frustrated because she obviously knows nothing about this and acts like I am being insubordinate when I try to educate her with what I've learned. One day she tells me "you probably have some PCO", then the next she says "you can't have it or you would never have a period - ever". Of course, she thinks going on the pill will fix everything.

I am beginning to think I will have to basically diagnose and prescribe treatment myself (she will probably go along with whatever I ask for). Based on symptoms, side effects, insurance, etc. I have narrowed it down to the following: Glucophage (XR?), Aldactone, Cabergoline. (I obviously have to see the fasting insulin test first.) I do not like taking meds and would like to choose just one, if possible. I do not want to get pregnant, my main concerns are just being healthy, taking off some weight and dealing with the excess hair.

I guess I just want to know if anyone can relate to my situation and give advice. I haven't really read about anyone with high Testosterone and Prolactin levels on here. Do I need to address both? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
