Hi!

I'm so sory your endo was no help! Fat lot of good tha does you, being thrown out into this on your own!

The key to controlling hypoglycemia, even more than what you eat, is when you eat. Make sure you keep an eye on your blood sugar, specially when exercising or stressed, and eat often. Aim for about every 3 hours I'd say. (I am no doctor, but I do have hypoglycemia and this was a good schedule for me.) Breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, bedtime snack. I assume by your question that you are low carbing? You're quite right about the obvious culprits - "white" foods and sugars. That leaves you with realistically quite a bit! Protein is of the utmost importance with hypoglycemia, as it is digested slowly and releases a nice long steady stream of glucose. Meats, cheese, eggs, beans (although they can be higher carb) all are good. Salads too, although just a plain veggie salad might not be enough to keep your sugar up for very long. Depending on how strict you are about your carbs, complex carbs are very good too. Multi grain foods and items like brown rice are great. Also fruits with lots of fiber, like apples. Make sure you are getting enough fat (sounds weird I know) but it will help you to feel full and keeps your blood sugar a bit more stable. One of my favorite pick me up snacks is a handful of nuts: Almonds, peanuts, cashews, whatever. They are good, they are relatively healthy, and they provide a good boost of energy that lasts quite a while. I am also a HUGE fan (too huge!) of apple slices with peanut butter.

I hope this gives you some more ideas!
