Re: Birth Control Pill for Excess Hair GrowthFrom: Cindy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 01 May 2001 01:24:17 -0500
Caitlin, I am a 21 year old Canadian, I have just been diagnosed with PCOS by my family doctor. I have gone through the same things you are going through when I was sixteen. You may want to try using a dipilatory such as NAIR or Sally Hansen on your sideburns and belly. You can pick it up at any department store or drugstore. Personally, I shave my belly when I shave my legs, I would NEVER try to shave my face, I have light brown hair like you and a depillatory works very well for me (There is no stuble like shaving and it lasts about 2 weeks).I would only get the kind that says it is for your face if you want to use it on your sideburns. You may want to test a small spot first to see that it doesn't cause a rash. If a few hairs start to grow back before it is necessary to use the depillatory again you can just pluck them with tweezers.I know how frustrating it can be to be only 16 and be worrying about excess hair. It's not fair is it? I hope this advice on hair removal helps you, I've just started using the depillatory myself and I find it much better than waxing. I was on Ortho Tricyclen a couple of years ago and it did help my hairgrowth some, but not much. My doctor just perscribed Aldactone, which is suppose to help the hairgrowth, It does take 3-6 months to work though. Don't be afraid to ask your doctor about it, the sooner you start it the sooner you will see results. My doctor perscribed Ortho-Tricyclen again when she diagnosed me with PCOS, but after reading the suggestion someone made to you about diane-35 I think I will make another appointment and ask her about it. I hope I've helped you some, I know how frustrating it is to be 16 and just want to be normal and not worrying about excess hair growth. Don't be afraid to ask your doctor to perscribe something for it. I strongly suggest you try out some hair removal methods, too. There is no reason you shouldn't be able to dress and act just like any other 16 year old. All the best wishes, Cindy
