Julie it doesn't seem right that your doctor would scare you so. Lactic acidosis is of course something to keep in mind but it is VERY very rare. I have heard numerous doctors say that in all their years of practice they have neevr seen a case. It almost exclusively occurs in people who have previous problems with kidneys or liver damage I think. (???) Regardless, since I can't remember specifically, if you are a healthy person then you shouldn't have to worry, water or no water. 32 oz is a great goal for anyone to keep your body functioning properly but drinking only 16oz won't kill you.

That being said, if the side pains are really worrying you, by all means get it checked out!
