I have *definitely* read that Asian women are less affected by hirsutism in androgen disorders. Hispanic and darker European women sometimes suffer a lot more with hirsutism, maybe because the hair is already black. You can ask your doctor to test your hormonal levels, but be aware that being on bcps can mask what is truly happening. It makes the levels be more normal. You should really consider seeing an endocrinologist about this; they really understand how hormones work. I have not tried Accutane but I know it is something that you must take using contraception because it can cause a birth defect. However it can really dry out your skin, mouth, and eyes. I have had a lot of good results using Aldactone. It does not cause drying. It blocks your testosterone that is too high, from acting on your tissues. But you must use bcps when you take Aldactone (also sold as Spironolactone) because it can cause a birth defect too. Bcps do not reduce your testosterone, but they keep it from going any higher. Ortho Tri Cyclen is supposed to be the worst for us; I have not tried your particular monophasic. I used Ovcon, Orthocept, and Micronor. I loved Ovcon but now that I have high blood pressure I have to use Micronor. Good luck getting the treatment you need. It does sound to me like you have PCOS, or at the very least a milder androgenic disorder, so you should find a doctor you can be comfortable with since you will always need treatment. Have you considered using one of the insulin sensitizers? Sometimes this fixes everything at the root so you don't need several medications. Let us know how it goes!
