Hi Jodi - I was not the previous poster you were thinking of but I have had pretty good luck with the Braun Silk Epil in certain areas. They do still make it - I got mine in the last year from QVC. I have only been using it for a year or so but find it VERY helpful on areas like stomach - chest/cleavage areas. It works quickly in those areas (at most 30 seconds) and takes about 3 weeks for the hair to return (and I seem to grow hair awfully fast). I have not used it on my legs - I think it would just be too time consuming so I just shave my legs. The place where I have the most bothersome hair is my chin/neck and it is not especially useful there for me since its ability to remove the really coarse hair requires more hair length then I am willing to let grow there. It will definetely pull the coarse hairs but not at stubble length (at least not for me).

I don't know if the tweezers on the head of the unit eventually wear out or not - but I have never seen components of the unit sold seperately so I suspect you may have to buy a new one if that is the case. While it was not cheap (around $50 I think and it came with electric shaver attachments, cleaner, etc.) - I consider it a worthwhile purchase given the speed of hair removal and the act it stays away for a few weeks. Good luck
