Hi ! I couldn't help but read your messages as i've had similiar experiences with both UK GPs and also Endocrinologists. I have been trying for about 12+ years to get some answers or a diagnosis. There seems to be a huge lack of understanding or ignorance with most UK GPs but finally i found a new GP who has sent me to an Endocrinologist for confirmation of PCOS. I'm lucky but i had to fight to get taken seriously. Over the years i've had GPs turn around and say its my weight or "don't worry, there's infertility drugs available" but noone knew what was causing the symptoms i experienced. About 2 years ago i read about PCOS and thought my symptoms could match PCOS but i couldn't get my GP at the time to take me seriously. Tomorrow i get to see the Endocrinologist for the first time and although i'm firm about not wanting to be fobbed off with the BCP I know i need some help with the mood swings and just to have confirmation of PCOS will be a relief after all the years of ignorance of GPs and endless years of worry on my part. Through this web-site i've learnt alot and i'm ready to ask plenty of questions about my treatment and my way forward. Don't give up! Change GPs if you have to but be firm with the medical profession and if you have to give your GP this web-site address. Good luck everyone and all the best for the future!
