Re: What do you think of these lab results? From: jodi (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 27 Apr 2001 11:05:23 -0500 (CDT)
hmmm... i'd be pretty concerned if my FSH was 8 and my LH was $... and that glucose level of " is REALLY alarming! :) i would love to help you with the results if i could, but they appear very jumbled and mixed up to me. are you writing from a different country, perhaps? i don't know why the numbers would be illegible. basically, with PCOS, you're told to look for: - elevated testosterone, with particular attention to free testosterone - an LH:FSH ratio of 3:1 or greater - a glucose:insulin level of 4.5:1 or less i think those are some of the key findings? it depends on whose book you read and what your doctor thinks... there's one catch, though... for every thing you read that says "X, Y, and Z are indicative of PCOS" you read something else that says, "however, not all women with PCOS experience X, Y, and Z." i feel that if you suspect you have PCOS - if you have absent or irregular or really weird periods, and/or excessive facial & body hair, and/or adult acne, and/or easy time gaining weight, and/or hard time losing weight, and so on... well, you probably have it. are you having any of those symptoms? my guess is you are, or you wouldn't be going to your doc to get blood work and you wouldn't be asking us for adivce. :) what sort of treatments has your doc advised? or, perhaps the more common question is, what sort of treatments would you like to try that your doctor is opposed to? let us know! - jodi
