Re: PCOSFrom: Alicia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 25 Apr 2001 10:38:52 -0500 (CDT)
I went through the same thing at your daughter's age. The doctor put me on bcp, but as soon as I stopped taking them (around age 21) all the symptoms worsened. (The facial hair, instant weight gain, pain, etc.) I would suggest trying a low-carb eating plan. Low-carbing can ease many of the symptoms and could bring on regular periods. All without (possibly) unnecessarily putting her on medications such at Glucophage, bcps, etc. I wish I had known about low-carbing years ago. (I had to try several approaches (Atkins, Carbohydrate Addicts, Sugarbusters) before I found what worked for me and what I could live with for life. I finally went with a plan called Your Body Knows Best by Anne Louise Gittleman...a moderate-carb program.) Best of luck.
