PCOS causes IR or IR causes PCOS?????From: Jod (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 17 Apr 2001 22:18:47 -0500 (CDT)
Hi gals, I know that this is a very overtalked topic, but I am still in need of some answers! I have had both ovaries removed due to large clusters of cysts and adhesions, and am now experiencing very difficult problems with the estrogen, but that is another story. My question to you all is: Does PCOS cause IR or does IR cause PCOS? I ask this question as I called my dr. yesterday and asked about Metformin or Glucophase. He called back stating that now that I don't have my ovaries that this would not be causing the problems! He said that the IR is related to the Insulin affecting the ovaries and now that I don't have ovaries this eliminates the possibility that I have IR!!! Since being placed on the Estrogen I am gaining 3-5 pounds per month (4 months now) and I am not able to gain this much as I am way overweight to begin with. He states that this isn't related to the IR,PCOS, Estrogen, or anything else for taht matter, jsut that I overeat! NOT!!!!!!!!!
>From what I have read recently on the internet it causes me to disagree! Anyone with any "proof" that this is possibly the right thought and that even though I no longer have my ovaries that I can still have IR! I would appreciate any info any one of you could share with me! He says that I will need to convince him that this is the way that it is or he won't write the script! Thanks for any information that you may have that could possibly help me in this battle! Take care, JOD
