I totally sympathize with how you feel. I spent the majority of my 20's not doing stuff because I felt self-conscience all the time. Then when I was about 28 I decided that I was going to work on my self esteem and fat acceptance and hope that by loving myself first and saying it was all right to be fat, I'd feel happier and treat myself better. It really has worked!

My one suggestion for feeling better is this: if it's possible, GET A DOG. Of course, only get one if you have the space and resources, but here's what it does for you: You have some one that loves you unconditionally You have someone that needs exercise (and therefore you get exercise) You have someone to take to doggy classes where you can meet other people You have a cute puppy that people stop and talk to you about You have something in common with a lot of people (dog ownership) that opens a lot of conversations.

Good luck and remember, we all know how you feel! ;-) Cassandra
