Re: PCOS and UTI?From: jodi (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 12 Apr 2001 15:30:44 -0500 (CDT)
uhhh... i'm not sure if you're asking if UTIs are more common with PCOS or what... but i seem to get them a LOT!!! (usually, i can link it to not peeing right after sex... every time i go to the health center with a UTI they tell me to pee after sex!!! but sometimes i just don't HAVE to...) ANYWAY... symptoms lessening as the day goes on and being worse in the AM doesn't sound too strange. you're probably more dehydrated in the morning, and dehyrdation alone can cause some burning/icky feelings when you have to go. as to the difference between a UTI and a kidney infection (pylonephritis)... basically, the location of the bacteria. i have had severe kidney infections twice. this happens, pretty much, when the UTI bacteria goes unchecked and works its way further upstream, so to speak. once it hits your kidneys, you will have horrendous pain sort of off to the side of the small of your back, only deep inside... once you have pain from a kidney infection, you will NOT forget it. this is the sort of pain that hurts so bad you feel like you're going to puke. since you don't mention having pain there, it's likely that if there is a problem at all, it's a UTI, and not pylo. sometimes you get a fever, too, once it hits the kidneys. it might be possible for a very early kidney infection to be asymptomatic, but i'm not sure about this... both times, i have had excruciating pain. hope all goes well at the docs, and keep drinking those fluids!!!
