Oh Sonnet, do _I_ know where you are coming from! I was surprised to have a Derm. tell me to get my stomach stapled! They keep throwing your weight in your face! UGH! >:( I got a question for you though. What about us women who are military? We really don't have any choice when it comes to Dr's, since all of our health care is "managed" through Tricare (essentially, a HoRrIbLe HMO). You always go to your "primary care" clinic for your medical needs, and if they can't help you, you have to get a referral---and boy can THAT be hard. THEN, you have to call Tricare the next day and try to make an appt. on that referral within 30 days at a MTF (military treatment facility). If there are no appts. available, they "refer you out to the network" of civilian Dr's. This does give you some choice, but you end up paying a fee for this---even though it was NOT your fault that there were not appts. with an MTF in the first place. (You can always choose to see a civilian provider for a fee if you CHOOSE, but referrals or other appts. that CAN'T be made with the MTF should be FREE). This is why it's taken me 2 years just to try to take 1 step FORWARD with my PCOS....and because of this wait (thanks to the military Dr's), my PCOS got so severe that I can't even be treated right now! So what are we military women supposed to do? UGH! I wish I had an answer because I really would like one! I cannot explain to you how frustrating this all is for me.....and my poor husband as well. He's thinking of leaving the Navy because of all this! Well, thanks for letting me vent (yet AGAIN, I know). I just get so frustrated that I don't know WHAT to do. But I keep on hangin in there!
