Surprised this wasn't pointed out earlier, but Ritalin is an effective treatment for ADHD/ADD in CHILDREN, who have very different metabolisms and brain chemistry than adults. At 19, you are more of an adult than a child, and Ritalin will be nothing more than an amphetamine (stimulant). Most docotrs will not prescribe this to someone your age; the ones who do are not keeping up with latest studies.

I went on Ritalin at 19 (am now 25) and for a while it was great. I could concentrtate for hours, lost about 30 lbs because I was never hungry, didn't need much sleep......then I started having blackouts, and when I went off it I gained a lot of wieght, fast, becuase my metabolism was a wreck. And I went through withdrawl symptoms (it is, after all, an addictive drug).

I have ADD and I am dyslexic, so I know how frustrating the situation can be, but the truth is there is not a miracle answer in a pill bottle, and PCOS already puts us at higher risk for a ton of medical problems. You should try alternatiev treatments before getting into the Ritalin.
