Ritalin is a stimulant used for ADHD. I work with special needs children and have ADHD so I have become a bit of an ADHD expert. I personally am a big fan of Ritalin, the press have given it a bad name. However, if someone truly has ADHD it can be miracle drug. People with ADHD can't tune out excess stimulation and are drawn to each little noise, thus creating an inability to concentrate. Ritalin can help stimulate the brain so that is can work more effectively, thus screening out background noise and increasing the attention span. The vast majority of people who take Ritalin have no side effects. The most common side effect is a decrease in appetite due to it being a stimulant (in high school I lost 15 pounds when I went on Ritalin). Actually...Ritalin made me feel the same as I feel on Metformin. However, saying all this Ritalin is only for people with true ADHD...which should be diagnosed by a psychiatrist, psychologist, or neurologist.
