i have to take issue with this. the reason is, i read the article. the things it lists only apply IF you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, OR are prone to certain conditions, such as swelling. the fact of the matter is for most of us, provera is a wonderful alternative to the bcp. i do not like taking medications, but i like the thought that without periods i will eventually develop cancer. and the thought of putting something in my body that has totally not been examined by doctors is even more frightening. while i do not, and can not deny the obvioius positive effects of some holistic medications, i do have to say that until they have been fully tested and examined by independant researchers, i cannot justify taking them. herbal medications, like all medications have side effects. the difference is, when we take a medication like provera or glucophage, or even the evil bcp, we know the possible side effects, with herbs we do not. i would not trust a purely non-holistic doctor to tell me anything about holistic medications, just as i would not trust a holistic doctor to tell me about conventional medications. the bottom line is that provera is a much better alternative for most women than the bcp. the bcp adds more hormones than is needed to accomplish the same goal as provera. the bcp masks symptoms of PCOS, while provera simply induces a period by adding the hormone that is missing in your body. i am not saying that provera is a perfect drug, but it would be irresponsible for anyone to say that it is totally NOT a good thing. just my 2 cents =) love, paula
