UPDATE on me--whoever wants to know :) (long)

Hello everyone, Ok, I've returned from my RE visit today. I was at that facility for 4 HOURS, 2 of which were spent in the RE room. Ok, they did another transvaginal u/s--just to double check on the presence of my cysts [which surprisingly there were SEVERAL and not just "1" that the last u/s last month showed--which the RE said was quite strange], and to also check the thickness of my endometrium. I saw the MANY cysts that were on my right ovary--don't know if there were some on the left, but the RE said it's rather odd to supposedly have "1" last month and have all these appear so quickly. (I'm guessint the u/s tech last month wasn't very experienced or wasn't too good at his job--the u/s took so long that time, and only took about 5 mins. today).

Anyhow, my endometrium is normal, but the RE called in another Dr. who said that in that case, my PCOS is "so severe" that I'm stuck in the cycle of PCOS due to my forever fluctuating (and heavy) weight and therefore there is "absolutely nothing" they can do to help my symptoms until I lose weight--about 100 lbs. (I weighed 339 today, went up 7 lbs in 2 days--no surprise). Result? They took me off the BCPs, started me on Avandia, and gave me a Lupron shot for 3 months. This is to help chemically induce an early menopause, which is supposed to get rid of my PCOS activity and symptoms, along with the Avandia is supposed to help me lose weight, so that THEN I can finally be treated. I'm due to come back in 1 month to have my weight counseled to see if the combination is working, and if so, to get another refill on Avandia.

They took 6 vials of blood from me--everything from the cortisol test to CBC (complete blood count), cholesterol and DHEA (hormone levels). The shot was so painLESS that I'd rather come back and have that done than the needles for the bloodwork! I hate needles! The shot wasn't even a "prick". Big whoop. :) lol Well, the good thing is I won't be suffering from PCOS and it's symptoms while this shot is working, and that I should be experiencing some weight loss due to that and the Avandia. Because they want me to come back in only 1 month, I'm assuming we're talking significant weight loss here.

I have mixed feelings right now because I'm not sure what to expect. They did agree that there is obviously a problem, but said that my weight is causing the prevention of treatment, which is literally why, I explained, I was there today. No Dr. has ever suggested this Lupron shot to bring on early menopause to help with my symptoms before--which will (if all goes well) ultimately make me lose weight so that I CAN be treated, if it's still needed. They're hoping the weight loss will get me OUT of the PCOS cycle, and therefore my body will be helping itself to releave the symptoms, rather than having medications do it. The Dr's overall were nice and understanding, although I'm not too sure about the other one that was called in (who decided about the shot). Anyhow, I knew Christa and some others would be interested in hearing my update, so that's why I posted it. I'm SO sorry it's so long, but I wanted to review my feelings about this appt. as well. I'm feeling kinda crummy right now, don't know if it's because of the shot, or the loss of so much blood or BOTH (I NEVER feel good after having any blood drawn), but that's why it's taken me so long to write this today--I had to take a nap. ;) Well, I hope this will put some hope in the many of us who are still trying to get treated for their PCOS. I doubt I have Cushings, thanks to the many cysts I did have, but I will update on that and all my blood work when I get the results--probably next month at my next appt. Take care everyone, and keep fighting to get PCOS treated!! That's the only thing that got me to this point, and I'm just STARTING OUT! My condition is so severe thanks to all of the Dr's who just dismissed me and refused treatment; they neglected me and now thanks to that, this is what I'm left with. Do not let this happen to you!! Fight!! Peace and God Bless us all! Good luck cysters!!! You CAN do it!!!!
