No, Dear One. You don't have to look forward to a miserable menopause. By the time you get to that age, it's very likely there will be a genetic treatment or cure for our problems. My mother had PCOS. I have PCOS. My daughter has PCOS. The good news now is that the condition is much better recognized and there is treatment. My daughter has trouble with too much body hair and she takes spironolactone (Aldactone), which helps tremendously. She'll have to go off this drug when she wants to become pregnant. But it appears that the insulin sensitizing agents like Metformin, Avandia and Actos also work very well in getting rid of the excess hair. There's also a new cream you can put on your skin to keep excess hair from growing. I can't remember the name of it, but it's in all the women's magazines. Menopause is a long way away for you. I understand why you worry, but try to stay focused on what you can do for yourself right now. Read everything. Learn everything you can. Get smart. Eat a low carbo diet and exercise. Your best response is to get educated and stay active in the world of women who share the same problem because the combined force of all of us looking for answers will find them.
