Cellulite! Help!! Tired of scamsFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 24 Mar 2001 13:01:04 -0600 (CST)
Although I am a (relatively) skinny PCOSer, I seem to be covered head to foot in cellulite even though I am only about 5 or 6 pounds overweight. I am pretty sure that this is also a symptom of this disease, since the cellulite appeared very suddenly right when a lot of my other symptoms like hair-growth and amenorrhea started. What I really HATE about this disease is that it opens women up for every snake-oil like treatment out there from bogus fertility fixes to unproven hair-removal gimmicks (and I've seen my share of those) to ridiculous weight-loss schemes. Unfortunately, cellulite is one of the areas where there is a huge amount of "science-fiction" out there but very little "science-fact." I've seen everything under the sun advertised for cellulite from creams (and I can't see how a cream could possibly work on such deep connective tissue), to diets to laser treatments to strange sounding machines. I am feeling really victimized by everyone trying to make money on what has for me been a very serious and upsetting problem. While I know there are no proven remedies for cellulite, does anyone know of anything that they have found personally effective? Or, is there some treatment out there that I don't know about that has been found to work fairly well? Does anyone out there know the skinny on this issue? Please help! I know it might sound shallow but it causes me endless embarrassment as it is really pronounced looking. Thanks for any help. (oh, and btw, I do work-out and it has had no effect on the cellulite so far...)
