Hey Chickie - I see you've had a lot of replies to this but I'll throw in my 2 cents anyway. >
>1) how long after conception can an HPT detect pregnancy? im thinking

10 days after conception your hCG levels should be high enough for an HPT to detect pregnancy. This early, first morning urine is helpful even if the box says any time of day because it has the highest concentration of the hCG hormone. In all honesty - these things are really accurate but if you get a negative check again in a week and if it is still negative call your Dr. & discuss a blood serum just in case at the same time you can ask for Prog. levels to be checked.

>2) i have always judged cervical mucus by the "wetness" that accompanies it. I have never >actually tried to touch my cervix.

I'm starting to think after reading these replies that I am the "odd man out" because I *can* touch my cervix, If I really try I can feel all around it. But now befire I tell you what it was like I feel I have to explain what half my hand was doing there to begin with - I am not *that* kinky - I just lost the tampon string an was DETERMINED not to have to go and ask a doctor to retrieve it. - It feels like a tiny soft penis. Pee hole and all. it's totally smooth though - no "head" but it give you the general idea. The end where the opening is is slanted. I think mine is just over an inch or so long. Course this description is me and I am sure everyone is different.

((Tips (given to me by a friend when I shared my above dilema) If yo want to try to feel it there are several ways you might try. - OMG I can't beleive I am typing this. You can squat so you naturally shorten the "space", place two fingers inside (as if looking for a missing tampon) and bear down as if having a BM. This pushes the floor of your uterus and thus your cervix down toward the opening more. You might feel it then. If squating isn't comfy you can try other positions - but you get the idea.

As far as the mucus goes - it is supposedly egg white texture that you are looking for but to the best of my recollection is no guarentee again because everyone is different. >
>3) has anyone ever just "felt different" when they became pregnant? Some people swear you do. I don't - I've conceived 2x and both times I had anticipation & thought I was. But to the core of my heart that has happened about 15 other times when it turned out I wasn't pregnant. One time I was late and my husband was discussing it with his mom and she said "Well, wouldn't she know?" And I felt like such a loser for not being better in tune with my body. Then I thought - oh hell I can't expect myself to "know" - so I've become queen of the HPTs because for me there really is no other way to know.

Your not nuts, take it easy on yourself - And above all try not to expect too much from your body as far as signs & stuff.
