Dear Val, I have been taking BCP for about three months at a time (especially when cahnging brands, which I have been doing a lot trying to find a magic one that will make me less spotty and won't make me fat :)...so far not much success with changing brands, although the one I am taking at the moment (Femodette, it has gestodene 75 and Ethyniloestradiol (??) 20) is alright-ish, i.e. still fat and spotty, but at least not as hideously fatter as when I take pills with a higher dose of oestrogen) Anyway, what I was meaning to say, if I ever get to the point! is that my doctor is also OK with me taking the pills in three months-slots, and I am quite happy with not having to put up with a period during that time. I am actually on BCP to give me a withdrawal bleeding, on my own, i.e. no hormones,I can go without a period for nine or ten months, and my doctor was not happy with this at all. There has also been research done on why having periods is actually not that good for women (Strange for us who actually would love to have regular periods by ourselves!), there is some research done by a couple of doctors on this subject, one of them is a Brazilian, Dr Elsimar Coutinho, try and do a search for material re him, I think his book is called something like "Is menstruation obsolete?", and he actually argues that the lower pregnancies and breastfeeding time that women spend nowadays has a repercusion on females' bodies, according to his theory, having regular periods, with the hormonal fluctuation that this implies is not very good. So I know that he is one of the people who thinks this is a good idea not to have periods... OK, I hope this helps or at least points you in the right direction! All the best, Elena
