Re: Low Carb Diet-Should you be...From: Zowie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 14 Mar 2001 15:55:39 -0600 (CST)
Hi Sonnet, Actually, the GYN I saw told me that it wasn't a good option because my hypoglycemia fluctuates. I could be borderline or "normal" one day (or a few hours) and then BOOM, bottom out without warning or reason. She didn't think it was a healthy option for me and advised against it. However, desperate to try and lose some of this weight, I tried to slowly transition into it anyhow to give it a try (most of my carbs/sugar are from juice that I MUST drink lots of every day to keep me going). Let me tell you my body did NOT like that. I simply cut back 1-2 glasses (at about 40 carbs each) and I got so sick and weak that I needed to eat more or drink a glass of juice quickly to bring my sugars back up. At that point, I said "fine" and just went on with my normal eating habits. The strangest part is--when I try to "diet" and eat less overall, I GAIN weight. If I eat normally or even a little more, I LOSE weight. Yep, makes PERFECT sense to me. Typically I fluctuate between 20 lbs. or so in a few days (I've been like that for 2 years now when my PCOS started to go into high gear), so as long as I'm somewhat "normal" eating how I want (which isn't "bad" anyhow), I'm content with that. Thanks for asking though!!
