Re: excess hairFrom: jodi (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 10 Mar 2001 15:34:39 -0600 (CST)
I would like to second sonnet's get-thee-to-a-doctor advice... with the additional tip of DO NOT LET THE DOCTOR TELL YOU "It's genetics, this is due to your ________ heritage" or "Some women are just hairier than others." I think a lot of us heard that one when we first started seeing a doc for this... and were forced to accept it, until a few years later when we were even hairier, and fat, and infertile, and so on, and wishing we could have had this treated when the symptoms were much less. make SURE to get the right blood work done, make SURE your doc is up on the latest with PCOS.. make sure you up on it YOURSELF so you can guide him/her if need be.. or know to get your butt out of there is he/she will not treat you correctly. you will probably be offered birth control pills, with or without aldactone... make SURE underlying insulin issues are addressed as well, make SURE you are not given a pill which can worsen PCOS.. many do. bottom line.. educate yourself before seeing the doctor, and make sure the doctor knows at least as much as you do, or at minimum is willing to learn. good luck!! i know how is sucks being hairy... i went to a private girls' school and i was the only one who wore tights year round because i did NOT look sexy with bare legs and a short skirt. even worse though, no doctor would take me seriously, and i was just told some women are hairier than others... it doesn'tmake you feel any better when you're surrounded by girls who live up to the school-girl jerk off fantasy and you're wearing opaque navy tights in June. do not let the hair be treated as a minor issue.
