Hi Belinda

Yes, I have totally given up beer. This is mainly because I am trying to follow the sugarbusters diet which claims that beer contains sugar. This diet allows red wine, but because of the met, my doctor said that only the occasional glass of red wine was allowed :-(

I do remember suddenly having problems getting the lime perrier a few years ago, although my local tesco used to stock the lemon variety. But since I moved to the USA I have been able to get lime perrier at my local supermarket.

When we go around to friends houses in the US, one of us usually has to drive, so now it is usually me cause I refuse to drink and drive and it doesn't bother me to stick to diet coke for a few hours, and, if anyone tries to get too insistant I explain that I am not allowed to drink on my medication and leave it at that. I have found that it doesn't bother me too much now, as I have found that even the smell of beer is disgusting (I started the sugarbusters diet at the end of March last year) and I am not really bothered about drinking much wine. I know what you mean about the beer culture though, especially after I missed going down to the pub when we first came over to the usa.

One thing that did help, was that I found that when I started the met, a glass of wine would go to my head really quickly but the hangover feeling would arrive really fast as well, somewhere around 15mins after drinking the glass of wine. This doesn't half put you off drinking too much too frequently. This is from a woman who used to be able to drink many men (and women) under the table by the time I reached polytechnic.

Good luck
