Alice,

I am so sorry that your friend is having such a tough time, PCOS can be so overwhelming. Some of the symptoms are just simply cruel for a woman to deal with. I'm sure that doctors will be recomending anti depressants to help your friend cope with her situation. Some people feel embarrassed to take these medications, I have a family member that does. I know from personal experience that there are a lot on the market and not all work for everyone. I for example had great sucsess with Zoloft and Effexor XR (at different times) Yet I had no luck with Paxil or the highly recognized Prozac. The most important thing you can do is offer support and encouragement to your friend.

If PCOS is a major source of depression, sometimes finding a board like this one can be a life line. The reason being is that you are almost certain to find someone who REALLY knows how you are feeling. You can connect and you don't feel so alone in the world.

I had a miscarraige last fall that hit me pretty hard. I feel that many of the ladies here understand the depth of my pain - even more than my husband. Although I talk to him about it he really can't comprehend what it was like for me. It can be both healing and comforting to find other people who are living with the same experiences you are.

While this isn't a cure for all in and of itself, it is part of what helps us cope with the crappy hand we were delt.

I would encourage you to point your friend in the direction of the board. New people post all of the time so there would be no one would know about her suicide attempt unless she wished to share it.

Whatever happens, God bless.
