Hi Paula,

I am sorry to hear that your mother's health is getting worse. I know how terrifying and depressing it is to watch a parent suffer from serious health problems and my prayers go out to you and your family.

As for the shower, I know exactly what you mean. It is frustrating to watch what seems like everyone else become pregnant, talk about it non-stop . . . even people who don't want to become pregnant or who are irresponsible with their pregnancies. I just have to believe that there is a reason why it takes us longer and that we will appreciate and love the children that we end up having all the more, be them our children through natural means, with reproductive assistance or adoption.

Also, you have been such a help and inspiration to so many other women with PCOS. I can't help but believe that there is a reason why you have had these struggles and that you have and will continue to help other women and will make a difference in how the medical world treats us.

As for your period/ovulation questions, Day 1 of your cycle starts on the first day of menstruation. Ovulation does not typically occur for everyone 14 days into the cycle but 14 days BEFORE you start Day 1 of your next cycle. So, with your last cycle you should have ovulated around the 11th. I you really want to know if you are ovulating I would recommend charting your BBT. Not only will it show whether or not you are ovulating, it will also show how long your luteal phase is (from ovulation to menstruation) and then you will know if your luteal phase is long enough to sustain a pregnancy. (It must be at least 10 days). Also, I highly recommend the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler (sp?). I have found it to be extremely educational and helpful.

Take care and please try to keep your spirits up. I hope that the awful PMS has subsided and that things don't seem so bad.

Love, Brenda
