Is METFORMIN worth it?????From: ALicia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 26 Feb 2001 16:12:38 -0600 (CST)
I have severe PCOS, went to doctor today. Was happy he told me I look like ive lost a lot of weight, and the nurse too. I know i will get my life back. Down from 600s to 400s, its been a long hard road. This is why I am very protective of going on any drugs that cause weight gain... so first question: 1. DOES MET CAUSE WEIGHT GAIN? I am in the midhigh 400s I think and I cannot afford anything that can cause even an iota of weight gain. My doctor has been trying to talk me into going on it the last 4 appointments he let me consider it. I guess he read more PCOS stuff because he was saying this could do so much good for you and lower your insulin. I am NOT diabetic and my fasting insulin was around 23. I went on and told him well my hypoglyecmia has been diet controlled...wont this drug mess me up?? I said Ill give it a try...but Im still worried....ok.... 2. CAN THIS DRUG MAKE ME A DIABETIC if I am not and if my sugars have come down. My fasting blood glucoses used to be borderline 120s, since weight loss I am down to 101, 99....around there. I am scared of having this go the opposite way... 3. HOW RARE is that one weird disease acidisois lactos----cant spell it, hopefully youll all know what I mean. ...I think I have it spelled wrong this rare side effect. Does it kill you immediately? can they treat it if it happens. I am afraid of "rare" things happening to me. I am a rare case already with my huge weight gain and degree of PCOS..... 4. ANYONE BEEN ON THIS DRUG AND HATED IT? 5. ANYONE BEEN ON THIS DRUG AND LIKED IT? 6. CAN ONE MIX ALDACTONE AND METFORMIN> I LOVE MY ALDACTONE AND WELL IM GOING TO BE ON BOTH>
